Wärtsilä was awarded propulsion machinery for a newly built purse seiner
Recently, Wärtsilä announced that it has received a contract to provide propulsion machinery for a new purse seiner. The new fishing vessel will be built by the Karstensen Skibsvaerft shipyard in Denmark for Strand Senior AS, a subsidiary of Norway's Strand Havfiske.
Janne-Grethe Strand Aasnæs, General Manager of Strand Havfiske, said, “We want to build a new fishing boat that represents the future, emphasizing efficiency and environmental sustainability. Clearly Wärtsilä is the ideal choice to meet these requirements.â€
It is reported that the new ship will be delivered in early 2019, 75 meters long, mainly for commercial fishing operations, combined with the use of trawl and purse seine, will operate on the western coast of Ireland.
Wärtsilä has previously supplied propulsion plans for other ships of the Strand Senior fleet. Wärtsilä will supply one Wärtsilä 31 engine, one two-speed gearbox, controllable pitch propeller, one high-pressure nozzle, shaft generator and Wärtsilä ProTouch control system, one of the world's most efficient four-stroke diesel engines. Stefan Wiik, vice president of engine business for Wärtsilä Shipbuilding Solutions, stated that “The Wärtsilä 31 engine has become an ideal choice for efficient operation in the marine industry.
